Production: Editing

We used the program Final Cut Pro X to edit.

We did a lot of editing for our production, as we got a lot of footage and some deleted clips that we didn't need to use. We started off with our original footage which we edited and made it into a film opening. We also recorded a separate video, which was a news report to put at the start of our film opening to give it a back story, as the audience would not know what is going on if it wasn't there.

After we had got the original footage, we noticed a continuity error, as there was a shot of the villain walking away, that instantly cut to a shot of him walking at pace towards the protagonist, we also decided that the ending of it needed re shooting, as it looked rushed and tacky.

We ended up re-filming the ending, and changed it up so that the small fight that happens lasts a little longer, and it also gave us an opportunity to add in sound effects like a stabbing noise when the villain gets stabbed, and also a hitting noise when the protagonist hits the villain round the head. We also filled in a small gap where the continuity error was, we did this by adding a shot of the protagonist trying to untie himself, followed by an over the shoulder shot as the villain walks up to him, pushes him back, to then carry on with the original footage of the antagonist stabbing the protagonist. We also had to edit the new shots as we used different lighting to light up the shots, we did this by editing the lighting of the footage so it was slightly darker, making it look like It has the same lighting as the original footage.

We used a selection of transitions in our production as we didn't want all of them to just be plain cuts. The other main transition we used was a static 'no signal' effect. We used this as a lot of our transitions as part of it is viewed through a CCTV camera. Other transitions we did were fades into black, fades and flashes.

We used a lot of effects on different shots to achieve certain things like a CCTV shot, in which we added a slight static effect and a camcorder overlay. We also added a border onto the introduction news report to make it look like it was on a TV, and also turned down the saturation to make it look old or outdated. We also added in lots of random effects and distortion to the part where the villain grabs and breaks the camera, as well as adding in little things like changing the time on the clock in the bottom corner. The final place we added an effect was on the first person shot of the protagonist, as we added a slightly red overlay on top to make it look like he is bleeding out a little from the earlier stab.

For our sound editing, we did a lot of work to give the opening suspense and tension, we started off by giving a slight distortion to the news report at the start when different things were flashing up, we also added in cinematic boom sounds to different parts to put emphasis on the part it booms at. For the background music, we found some non copyrighted ambient background music that was made for a horror film. We added in the static sounds for the shot in which the camera is broken off the wall, and we also added in a heartbeat and breathing for the point of view shot looking up at the antagonist. We added in some non copyrighted action music for the ending part of the production, I also used some sound editing to put two parts of the song together, which made the soundtrack better.
